Missing schoolgirls: Dapchi residents stone Yobe governor’s convoy
The Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, was on Thursday stoned by residents of Dapchi area of the state, where schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on Monday.
The schoolgirls said to have fled into surrounding bushes when the Boko Haram sect stormed the school, but as at Thursday many of them were yet to be found, leading to the conclusion they had been abducted.
On Wednesday, the State Commission of Police, Abdulmaliki Sumonu, out the number of girls yet to be account for at 111.
Aggrieved villagers therefore took out their frustration on Gaidam, as they stoned vehicles in his convoy.
Some of the governor’s aides were injured, leading to the use of tear gas to disperse the angry crowd.
No fewer than seven vehicles were destroyed in the convoy.
